This second book brings all that was well done about the first and adds in more details and more depth to the characters. DiTerlizzi continues his wonderful world building and adds in a real sense of danger and menace to this book in the form of the humans Eva Nine finally meets.

Like all good world builders, DiTerlizzi has created a world filled with interesting creatures and cultures that seem to have ancient and complex histories behind them. And just when you begin to think the story might be simple he adds in a twist or a layer of complexity. And yet there is a simplicity and beauty to the story that makes it a real joy to read.

For those who read the first book this is an obvious must read. If you haven't yet read WondLa I highly recommend it before starting the second book.

The only problem? Now the wait for the third book begins ...

What initially drew me into the series is the art - being an artist myself I was attracted to the style of the authors/illustrators drawings. Having more images through out the book was just a really yummy cherry on top. Besides that the story was captivating and written in such a way that it sucked you in and left you cheering for more. I'm sad that this is the last book of the series and hope that the author goes on the write more stories, I also hope she continues illustrating too!
The disclaimer here is this is a YA book. So happens, I like some of the YA titles and so I picked up on this series in spite of what I feel to be a so-so title. These are solid entries with characters you can work up some feeling for. The writing is good; it's a fast read. The illustrations lend a lot to the text, wish more authors would start doing this.

It, and the one before and the one after, are worth the price of admission. If you're older than YA buy them anyway, you may discover a guilty pleasure.
introduces your child to reality in a good way. there are some situations that children need to build mental models for that are presented in good healthy ways, like when Bastille kills the water bear, at first i was like is this a kids book? but it settled on me that children need to be presented with this material to help them develop healthy models for handling the situations they encounter. especially when there are so many unhealthy models to see on television.

This is the type of fairy tale Einstein was talking about.
Trippy but good, this sequel veers away from any expectation you may have of what will happen as Eva Nine explores Orbona.
Characters from the first book come back in to play, so it would be best to read the series in order, especially to enjoy the big reveal in book one, which book two treats as fact.
I am not a typical fan of fantasy as I like my 5th graders to learn life lessons from realistic fiction. Too often these lessons are underdeveloped in fantasy because magic can help mend any weaknesses.

This particular novel series does not rely too heavily on imagination and it deals with topics that people need to consider. Of primary focus is Is human dominance over the animals any better than alien domination over humans?

Eva 9 is strong-willed, yet she shows flexibility. All of the supporting cast are dynamic yet not too extraordinary. There are moments when these creatures "magic" does impact the story, but it's not too dramatic.

Overall, I look forward to reading the final of this series and I recommend that any 4th grader through adult give this a read.
A Hero for WondLa is an awesome sequel to The Search for WondLa. It it brings key answers to some important things from the first book such how Eva came to have the "WondLa" scrap in the first book and Arius's statement that Eva had family.

It brings brand new characters with a returning appearance of Otto, Eva's Halcyonus friends and Arius.

You also get to know a lot more about Hailey, the boy pilot who appears to pick Eva and Rovender up at the end of book one.

The book is set for children but teen and adult readers who read the first book will enjoy this aswell.

I read The Search for WondLa a couple years ago in hard cover and found it to be interesting. I was intrigued to find out what "WondLa" was. I had hoped through out the book that the "WondLa" thing that was tied to Eva's past was going to give out major answers about where she originally came from before her underground home but I wasn't given what I hoped for then. This book gives a tiny bit more info on her origins.

I'm eager to read The Battle for WondLa when it comes out, the third book in the series.
I recently discovered and quickly devoured The Search for Wondla, and had to read A Hero for Wondla right away. The only bad thing I can say is now I have to wait so long for the third book! DiTerlizzi continues the story of Eva Nine as she embarks on a new journey of meeting fellow humans and finding out what happened to Earth. While I was intrigued by the character Eva Nine in the first book, in the second book my love for this character intensified and I feel fully invested in her and Rovee.

I was excited to see the other humans and their city, but found that while that part was interesting, the best part of the story was Eva's development and growth. While The Search for WondLa introduced us to this strange new world and characters, A Hero for WondLa shows the growth and development of a true hero.

DiTerlizzi does a great job of exploring the characters and their environments, and introduces us to some new elements along the way. Once again, the story is accompanied by wonderful illustrations (blue-tinged this time) that help to carry the narrative forward.

A Hero for WondLa definitely answers a lot of questions that were left unanswered in The Search for WondLa, but leaves us with enough mystery and a slight cliffhanger to leave us wanting more. I think that the WondLa books are ones I'll return to again and again in the future, and will recommend them to my friends and family. I can't wait for the next book, and yet at the same time I'm dreading an end to this wonderful series.
